Khalid Al Balushi has brought to bear both erudition and talent to create these remarkable works. Strikingly lucid and concise in both style and imagery, they stand both as English poems in their own right, and as an exceptional insight for English- language readers into the aesthetics and poetics of modern Arabic, leaving deep and lasting reverberations of both sight and sound in the reader’s mind.

Despite the fact that classical Arab scholars translated Greek and Persian knowledge during the Islamic Golden Age, we have no evidence that they attempted to translate poetry. This could be seen as recognition that the ability to translate poetry. This could be seen as recognition that ability to translate poetry is no mean feat.
