This book is the result of my general interest in the political and social developments in the Middle East over the last years. Thanks to my studies at the Centre of Strategic Studies of the Lebanese Army and my numerous discussions with General Salah Barakat and General Oliver Hakme I elaborated this subject, which might be essential for the future of the region.
While many people supported to finalisation of the book, my supervisor Dr. Jamal Wakim was not only an excellent advisor for my research but paved the way for publishing my work.
