This book is an academic study about the emergence of Rafic Hariri from 1979 until 1990, as a philanthropist and political mediator before he becomes a Prime Ministe as part of the Lebanese Sunni leadership in Lebanon. His appearance in the Lebanease political life comes at a time where the Sunni political leadership was in severe decline vis-a-vis an increase of a Shiite presence, and a Christian retreat and division.

It explores and discusses how Hariri established his network of influence to build his political leadership between the years 1979 and 1990. It includes: wealth, regional support especially the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and an intertwinning relation between his business deals mainly in USA and France and his political emergence and role in Lebanon.

Moreover, it highlights insights about his role in the internal Lebanease political events, such as the 1982 presidential elections, the Tripartite Agreement in 1985, February 6 uprising, and his role in Geneva and Lausanne conferences in 1983 and 1984 until Taef agreement in 1989.
This research studies the question of leadership in Lebanon from a Sunni perspective, and explores the role and impact of the emergence of Rafic Hariri, especially that he does not belong to the traditional Sunni families that have dominated the political scene in Lebanon.
